Narrative Development: Task 1: Michael Beirut

Micheal Beirut is a Graphic Designer that was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1957 and is a world leading Graphic Designer. He was inspired to become a Graphic Designer by his love of art which stemmed into several different categories at the time such as fine art, drawing and music, although he claims his main form of inspiration was the CD cases covers that inspired him at the time more then anything else. He studied Graphic Design at the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning and after he graduated, the first job obtained was working for Massimo and Lella Viginelli in New York City, which is considered one of the world’s most important Graphic Design Firms, he worked here for ten years. After a keystone event in his career involving the vice president of Design in Massimo and Lella Viriginelli and a claim how certain Graphic Design Products are never read, Beirut designed from then on he would design things that people wanted to read and look at not what they didn’t.

Some of the things he is most famous for is Been on the team that created Identity Design, Environmental Graphic Design and Editorial Design Solutions, he is also well known for been on the Board of the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists and for his Redesigning of their Dooms Day Clock to appear more modern in Design, He is also known for his involvement in the film Helvetica. He has also won several different Design awards as well as having several pieces of his work displayed in various Museums and Art Galleries such as the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum in New York and The Museum Fur Gestaltung in Zurich, Switzerland.
