Timeline Research: 1906 Humorous Phases of Funny Faces

Humorous Phases of Funny Phases is one of the very first silent animations in existence that was directed by James Stuart Blackton and is considered the very first animation that was recorded on standard picture film. The entire film is hand drawn although technically in order for the animation to work the images on the film would have to have been scratched onto the standard picture film. The main techniques that were used to produce to this animation is stop motion and cutout animation. The actual animation was produced via chalk board that Blackton drew images on the board via chalk. In my personal opinion this animation is properly one of the most successful animations of the early 20th Century that is still around from the the 20th Century, I would also class this animation under entertainment and invention because yes it is form of entertainment but it is also one of the very first forms of stop motion animations that is recorded. I believe that this animation even though it is a weird animation due to the fact that it is the first of it’s kind as well as it been one of the very first animations to go so in detail with facial expressions. This is marked as historical and as a animation.
