Anticipation, Action, Relaxation Research

Anticipation just like Bounce, Squash and Stretch is one of the most important of the twelve principles of animation due to the fact that prepares the audience for the next action or shows an event that occurs outside the screen. The most stereotypical case of anticipation that is used is a pitcher for a baseball game or a character jumping. Usually the action that is used to make the audience anticipate is often made to appear to take a while to be done or the action will be often be over exaggerated to make the audience aware of that it is a moment of anticipation.
